Artificial turf can have some very adverse consequences on trees while fruit trees do much better with mulch over their roots so you can take care of them correctly. I have actually seen synthetic grass look excellent when mounted over mounded dirt under color trees, such as paperbark tree (Melaleuca quinquinervia) despite blossom beds under the trees.
