Chicago was integrated as a municipality in 1837 beside a portage sandwiched between Lake Michigan together with the watershed of the Mississippi River. The name of the city comes from a French diction from the Native American utterance of shikaakwa, which means "wild onion" inside Miami/Illinois native american language. The name was talked about within the documentation of Robert de LaSalle around 1679 as referenced it as "Checagou.".
